Join Lori Elrick and Riddhi Seth to explore a new trending craft project every couple of months. In August, Lori and Riddhi will build upon paper flower skills from the craft workshop in May to help you create a trendy and beautiful anemone paper flower ring wreath. Attendance at the May workshop is not a prerequisite. If you prefer to assemble the project on your own at home, the paper flower wreath kit is pre-packed with instructions for grab-and-go pickups. Free Shred Day Location: Johnston Public Library Get rid of your old confidential documents in a safe and secure way at Johnston Public Library's free Shred Day. THE SHREDDER company will be in the JPL parking lot from 9:00am to 12:00pm for on-site document destruction with 3 of their mobile document-shredding vehicles. THE SHREDDER is AAA certified by the National Association for Information Destruction.
Please limit material to be shredded to 3 disposable boxes or containers per household. To expedite shredding, traffic will route from Merle Hay around the library onto Morningside Drive and enter the west parking lot by the Simpson Barn. Animal Rescue Friends Book Club Location: Story Time Room JPL's Animal Rescue Friends Book Club is for 3rd-5th graders who love all critters! Each participant will receive a copy of the graphic novel "Animal Rescue Friends". Participants will be required to read an assigned story from this graphic novel each month and meet to discuss (approximately 25-30 pages). Along with our discussion, we will meet with an animal friend from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa's TheraPets program and do corresponding crafts/activities. A snack and juice will be provided.

Join Retired Music Educator and Percussionist, Rich Clark, for a quick dive into the joys of rhythm! Rich will provide instruction on how to count along with a song and create basic beats on any percussion instrument while demonstrating a wide variety of drums that you can bang on! Make sure to grab your spot in this exclusive JPL drum circle.

Presenter Bio -
Rich is, first and foremost, a percussionist. He has been making noise on anything drum-like for over 50 years. He has played with various marching bands, drum corps, municipal bands, big band, and jazz organizations, as well as in the orchestra for multiple musicals in both the Quad Cities and St. Louis area. After 35 years as a middle school music teacher, Rich is now retired. Get A Flu Shot With Polk County Health Department Location: Archive Room Flu season is coming--are you ready? Come to JPL Wednesday, October 5 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm to get flu shots for the whole family. Most major insurance cards are accepted and flu shots for uninsured individuals are available for a suggested donation of $25.00, but no one will be turned away because of inability to pay.
Pre-register with Polk County at www.immunizepolk.com to skip the registration paperwork and be in and out of JPL quickly.
The Quadravalent flu vaccine will be available in injection form only.A higher dosage flu shot for individuals 65 and older will also be available. Due to a cost increase in this high dose vaccine for individuals 65+, the Polk County Health Dept asks for a donation of $65 for the higher dose vaccine, but also will never turn anyone away. Animal Rescue Friends Book Club Location: Story Time Room JPL's Animal Rescue Friends Book Club is for 3rd-5th graders who love all critters! Each participant will receive a copy of the graphic novel "Animal Rescue Friends". Participants will be required to read an assigned story from this graphic novel each month and meet to discuss (approximately 25-30 pages). Along with our discussion, we will meet with an animal friend from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa's TheraPets program and do corresponding crafts/activities. A snack and juice will be provided.

Animal Rescue Friends Book Club Location: Story Time Room JPL's Animal Rescue Friends Book Club is for 3rd-5th graders who love all critters! Each participant will receive a copy of the graphic novel "Animal Rescue Friends". Participants will be required to read an assigned story from this graphic novel each month and meet to discuss (approximately 25-30 pages). Along with our discussion, we will meet with an animal friend from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa's TheraPets program and do corresponding crafts/activities. A snack and juice will be provided.

Animal Rescue Friends Book Club Location: Story Time Room JPL's Animal Rescue Friends Book Club is for 3rd-5th graders who love all critters! Each participant will receive a copy of the graphic novel "Animal Rescue Friends". Participants will be required to read an assigned story from this graphic novel each month and meet to discuss (approximately 25-30 pages). Along with our discussion, we will meet with an animal friend from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa's TheraPets program and do corresponding crafts/activities. A snack and juice will be provided.
